- We Did It! Governor Kelly Vetoed Sugaring Bill SB 434
Friday, April 12, 2024 was a day to revel in the victory of Kansas Governor, Laura Kelly, protecting the health and safety of Kansans. However, we have one last hurdle to kill this bill. Although the governor vetoed the bill, it can still be overturned by a 2/3 vote in both the House and Senate. It is currently on the agenda for the Senate on April 25, 2024. Why is this bill so concerning? Watch our KCTV5 NewStory (April 3, 2024) for more details. https://www.kctv5.com/video/2024/04/03/new-bill-looks-deregulate-sugaring-has-local-estheticians-alarmed/ There was only 1 opposing vote when the Senate originally voted. What can we do now? We need everyone to email the senators asking them to protect Kansans by changing their vote and opposing SB434. If we can get 14 senators to change their vote, there won’t be a 2/3 majority needed to overturn the governor’s veto. We will win this battle. (There will be more Beauty Industry deregulation bills to come nationwide.) Who voted for Sugaring Bill 434? Senate Vote Results: Bills and Resolutions | Kansas State Legislature (kslegislature.org) House of Representatives Vote Results: Bills and Resolutions | Kansas State Legislature (kslegislature.org) What shall I say to the senators? Dear Senator ________________, Please DO NOT vote to overturn the veto for Sugaring Bill SB434. Vote to protect the health and safety of Kansans to avoid sanitation and bodily harm concerns, such as contagious diseases, from the unskilled rendering of hair removal techniques. This exposes our children by giving access to this service anywhere, with no required screening, inspection, or disinfection to create a safe environment. Thank you, _______ What’s the Backstory to this bill? The public and Beauty Industry Professionals were not aware or present at the Kansas Capitol to ensure the senators had ALL the information needed to make an informed decision as to the concerns with rendering of uneducated Sugaring Hair Removal Services. They only heard the proponents of the bill espouse that Sugaring is “just lemon, sugar, and water and can’t hurt anyone”. So, why weren’t we there? It is because we did not know a Sugaring Bill Hearing was happening until the day before. Opponents of SB434 missed the House and Senate hearings to testify against the bill, but it will not happen again. Four licensed Cosmetologists and Estheticians testified in the hearing with Federal and State Affairs Committee about concerns with uneducated, unlicensed providers rendering Sugaring Hair Removal, but, it was too late to sway opinions with pertinent facts about training, education, blood spill, contagious disease control, and more. How can we made a difference? This bill being vetoed is a blessing! Even going back to the senate for one more vote is giving us a platform to bring awareness to this Sugaring bill and how legislation works. We have been given a chance to provide accurate information about the dangers to the public when Unlicensed people are allowed to touch unassuming customers without proper training. This next vote also give senators an opportunity to correct their initial vote against their constituents. What happens after the senators vote? If we do not get enough senators to change their vote against SB434, the bill will go to the House of Representatives. If all the Representatives vote the same way, they will not have enough votes to overturn the veto. We just have to keep that for legislators to do the right thing—and encourage them with our emails and calls. Click on their names and tell them your concerns and use the provided template above: Senators https://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/vote_view/je_20240222105226_164384/ Contact House of Representatives https://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/vote_view/je_20240326101851_959025/ Senate Current Events for April 25, 2024 https://kslegislature.org/li/events/senate/ What’s Next? You are welcome to join monthly meetings with SALON/SPA CONSUMER ADVOCACY. We are dedicated to bringing awareness Beauty Industry Deregulation to Salon/Spa Professionals and the Public. We are in the beginning stages of organizing our coalition to prepare for the next deregulation bills that will risk our health and safety with low bars for sanitation and skilled services. - Help Us Keep Kansas Women Safe
Please sign our petition for Governor Laura Kelly to Veto Bill: SB434 to Deregulate Sugaring Hair Removal. Please sign our petition today! https://chng.it/sGdjjbLNjZ As a concerned citizens of Kansas, we support and stand with the Kansas Licensed Estheticians and Cosmetologists to VETO SB434 and keep Kansas safe. We am deeply troubled by this bill that seeks to deregulate sugaring hair removal services in Kansas. This bill, if not vetoed, would allow anyone to provide sugaring services without the necessary training, licensing, or background screening, creating a significant risk to the public’s health and safety. A group of my colleagues and I testified before the Kansas Federal and State Affairs Committee on behalf of the health and safety of the public, in particular, the women of Kansas who seek temporary hair removal services in salons and spas. Here is the attached hearing; you will witness the testimony from Proponents and Opponents of SB434: Sugaring Deregulation from March 6, 2024 in Topeka, KS at the State Capitol. View our testimony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyNRt1tE5Ao (Scroll to 35min time stamp.) Sugar Hair Removal Services are safe when rendered properly. Please sign our petition today! https://chng.it/sGdjjbLNjZ By signing our petition to Veto SB434, you help all of us. Protecting the health and safety of the public needs to be a top priority for every decision-maker in every state. Please help persuade Kansas to do the right thing. As you can see in our testimony, we highlighted all of the key concerns BEYOND rendering hair removal services that need to be taken seriously when deregulating a service within an industry that primarily serves women in a very intimate way. Now, here's the key reasons why we'd like your signature on our petition... What you need to know about the deregulation of Sugaring Hair Removal The Risk #1: Why Is This Veto So Important? Human Trafficking #2: What is our main concern? Action Needed #3: Is Your Reader Feeling Empowered? The Risk #1: Why Is This Veto So Important? Although a sugaring service can be done on any part of the body, the primary area for this service is the genital area. The sugaring hair removal process involves the client removing their clothing from the service area, direct contact with skin from the service provider, and removing the hair from its follicle. When sugaring is not performed correctly, using safety protocols, and with properly disinfected tools, both the client and the provider are at significant risk of infection and disease. Diseases that could have lifelong effects such as herpes, AIDS, hepatitis, and STDs. By allowing untrained, unlicensed individuals to perform this service in unregulated facilities, the public is not safe. source: American Academy of Dermatology Please seize this opportunity to make your voice heard with us. Human Trafficking #2: What is our the main conern? This bill also has the potential to expose women and girls to sex crimes and/or human trafficking. If not vetoed, providers of this service would no longer be screened for felonies. This would allow registered sex offenders and pedophiles to offer sugaring services to the public. It would also mean the facilities providing these services would no longer be inspected or have any oversight from a state agency. This lack of regulation will open opportunities for illicit activities under the guise of beauty services. Action Needed #3: How you can help! The importance of regulating disinfection, sterilization, and regular inspections cannot be overstated when it comes to sugaring hair removal services. The result of these regulations is that they allow me, and the public, to feel safe and protected. Please sign and share our petition today! https://chng.it/sGdjjbLNjZ
- How a Humidifier Can Transform Your Hair and Skin Health
5 Tips to reap the Skin and Hair Benefits of a Humidifier in Your Home Ever noticed that your hair and skin seems more dry in the wintertime? It is not your imagination. If you don't have a furnace with a humidifier, consider getting a freestanding one. I keep one in our home and the skin studios to keep skin, hair, and plants from drying out. Plus, with the right humidifier, you can diffuse lovely essential oils that will waft your favorite scents throughout your space--talk about a mood stabilizer! Tip #1 - Too much of a good thing is not good The benefits of using a humidifier for your skin and overall health are undeniable: Hair + Skin - Increases the air's water content Body - Hydration helps flush toxins and fluids through the capillaries Room - The right humidifier can be used to diffuse healing essential oils for a healthy mood However, it's important to avoid any potential issues by using your humidifier correctly. Tip #2 - Short and Sweet At BELLA BAR, I recommend using a humidifier for short periods of time, and only when needed. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and keep an eye on the humidity levels in your home. By using your humidifier safely and effectively, you'll be able to enjoy the benefits for your skin and respiratory health. "Include quotes by experts in your post to add credibility." – SEO specialist Tip #3 - Make it personal Not withstanding the hydration benefits for hair and skin, there's nothing like a space that smells like a spa. The same scents my clients love at BELLA BAR can extend to their personal spaces with a humidifier or a diffuser. My favorite essential oil combinations for home and skin studio are: Eucalyptus + Lavender Lemongrass + Peppermint Clove + Lemon Tip #4 - Clean this thing If you're using your humidifier weekly, clean it every week. Germs, bacteria, and mold will harbor in the equipment if it's not throughly maintained for cleanliness. The essential oils will build up and clog the machine as well. Use water and vinegar to clean your humidifier. And, dry it out thoroughly between uses to avoid fungi breeding ground. Tip #5 - Still on the fence Lastly, if you're still on the fence for whether a humidifier is right for you, consider a few more benefits that can help with the over all health benefits for you and your family, if, you're willing to keep your humidifier clean: Acne - When skin is dry, oil production can increase and cause acne breakouts Chapped Lips - Helps keep chapped lips at bay by keeping hydration in the air Static Cling - Air humidity reduces static cling because hair absorbs hydration Dull/Dry Skin - Give your skin a chance to glow with the right skincare and un-dry air Where to begin I am not a humidifier sales rep. Nor does BELLA BAR sell humidifiers. I am simply an Esthetician that's here to help. Of course, always research any information I provide to you and make sure it's is right for you and your lifestyle! But, if you'd like to know what humidifiers I have chosen for my home and skin studio, message me and I will respond with the link. info@BELLABAR365.COM

As a business owner, I cannot run my business successfully if I, myself, am sick or make other clients sick due to unnecessary exposure to illness. The second session (first touch-up) is covered in the initial price of the procedure unless affected by the late cancellation policy. Any subsequent sessions (touch-ups) will be billed accordingly. 2. Permanent Makeup is an art, not a science. 3. The results of Permanent Makeup are not guaranteed. They are affected by many factors not limited to: client age, skin type, skin tone, or biological resistance to pigmentation. This is why during the consultation and design process, Nichole will determine the correct procedure appropriate for your face and skin type according to this factors. 4. Final finished product can be affected both positively and negatively by factors not limited to sun screen use, a personal skin care regimen and adherence to proper healing procedures. 5. Similar to a medical procedure performed by a doctor, every effort will be made to create the most optimal outcome however, BELLA BAR cannot guarantee the healing process. 6. Permanent Makeup may need at maximum, yearly touch ups. The rate of touchups depends on but is not limited to: client preference, client genetics, skin type and skin care regimen. Clients with oily skin types, clients who regularly place anti-aging skin care products on their brows or exfoliate harshly as well as clients who do not wear sunscreen outdoors are more susceptible to pigment loss. 7. Permanent Makeup fees are non-refundable. 8. Every effort will be made to ensure that clients are satisfied with the final, healed results. It is understood that due to factors beyond BELLA BAR’s control, final results may vary. Print for your records, or refer back to this page for details. BEFORE CARE Prior to your permanent cosmetic enhancement, think about the look that you wish to achieve. As experts in the field, we ensure that the correct colors and styles are chosen for you, however, you are part of the decision-making process. Permanent cosmetic enhancements normally require multiple application sessions. To achieve the best results, you will be required to return for at least one touch up procedure 4-6 weeks after the initial application. Be prepared for the color intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. This process can take up to fourteen days. Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, you are advised not to make social plans on the day of your enhancement. Please wear your normal make-up to your enhancement appointment. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen 24 hours prior to and after your enhancement. A sensitivity test will be performed unless waived upon request. Do not use Retin-A skincare products close to the enhancement area 2 weeks prior to and after your procedure. Do not tan or sunburn 2 weeks prior to the procedure. Do not work out the day of the procedure. No alcohol or caffeine 24 hours prior to the procedure. Waxing/tweezing hair removal should be performed no less than 3 days prior to your enhancement. IPL laser hair removal should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your enhancement. Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 5 days prior to your enhancement. Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after your enhancement. Please note that you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle. AFTER CARE After care is very important for producing a beautiful and lasting result. For the first few hours after the procedure, gently blot the area occasionally with a clean tissue to remove any lymph that might be leaking. Do this until it is no longer leaking. Keep the area clean by washing with freshly washed hands and a mild soap. I prefer unscented antibacterial foaming Dial hand soap & filtered water. Use your fingers to rub the soap in the direction of the hairs. Do not use a washcloth or sponge to remove soap. Simply splash with water. Do not use cleansing creams, acne cleansers or astringents. Apply the aftercare balm with a cotton swab. Use the balm very sparingly (just enough to barely coat your swab), your brows should not look shiny and you should not be able to see any excess balm. Too little is better than too much. Never touch the procedure area without washing your hands immediately before. Do not scrub, rub, or pick at the epithelial crust that forms. Allow it to flake off by itself. If it is removed before it is ready the pigment underneath it can be pulled out. Do not use any makeup near the procedure area for at least 10 days. Purchase new mascara and makeup, if possible, to avoid contamination or bacterial infection. Always use sunscreen after the procedure area is healed to protect from sun fading. Minimize use of exfoliating and anti-aging products in the area to maximize the life of the pigment within the skin. What’s Normal After Getting Permanent Make Up? Swelling, itching, scabbing, light bruising and dry tightness. Take ibuprofen for swelling. Aftercare balm is nice for scabbing and tightness. Too dark and slightly uneven appearance. After 2-7 days the darkness will fade and once the swelling dissipates unevenness usually disappears. Remember the color will be 30-40% lighter when fully healed. Color change or color loss. As the procedure area heals the color will lighten and sometimes seem to disappear. This can all be addressed during the touch up appointment and is why the touch up is necessary. The procedure area has to be completely healed before we can address any concerns. This takes at least 4-6 weeks. Needing a touch up months or years later. A touch up may be needed 1 to 3 years after the initial procedure depending on your skin, medications, and sun exposure. I recommend a touch up 4-6 weeks after the first session and annually to keep them looking fresh and beautiful. Touch up sessions after 4-6 weeks will be subject to additional charge. Other Potential Aftercare Warnings Giving Blood: The Red Cross has suggested that you do not give blood for 12 months following treatment. Always notify the nurse of any permanent procedures before donating. Injectables: Dermal fillers and Botox can alter the shape of the eyebrows. The client should be advised that injectable should be carried out after a microblading procedure and not prior. Laser/Pulsed Light: Laser or pulsed light hair removal or skin rejuvenation treatments can cause color change. It is important to advise the therapist that you have had a microblading procedure, as this cannot be rectified with another microblading procedure. Failure to follow after care instructions may result in infections, pigment loss, discoloration & unevenness.
